A morning in the Russafa district of Valencia
Martin, our co-owner, spent a few hours earlier this month, in the Russafa district in Valencia in Spain, searching for some decent coffee.
Martin's morning in Russafa:
After spending a few days in Madrid on holiday with the in-laws, we headed to Valencia, where we explored the awe-inspiring and must see buildings by local but world famous architect Calatrava. On the second day I found myself with some spare time before heading back to the UK whilst the rest of the party was moving on to Barcelona.
It was the perfect time to explore hip Russafa, a cool district behind Valencia's bull ring and just south of the city centre. It is full with independent shops, small restaurants and art galleries.
As it was a bank holiday most coffee shops weren't opening until 10am. I, however, found Bluebell Coffee was already open and was buzzing with people having a coffee or some breakfast in the cosy cafe. They roast their own coffee and I opted for an Aeropress. The barista recommended a Kenyan coffee called Gifted AA. It was really excellent.
After Bluebell I headed further into the neighbourhood and found Los Picos. It was quite a cool space kitted out with concrete and plywood. The place has no wifi and no decaf. You come here for the coffee and the vibe! I had a tasty flat with served with Right Side coffee. The place has a nice outdoor seating area shaded by trees. A great place to hang out.
